Glen, Judi and nenella, you guys are so sweet for watching out for my Phals.

In this case though, I don't think it's mealy bugs (I've never had any so I'm not sure, must check) but it's as Brenda says, it's happy sap and two of the white spots are reflections from the window. The spike is full of this happy sap and I should remove it, I know.

Carpe Diem: He is a lilac pointed little bugger named Pelle and he's always involved when I photograph the Phals. Silly cat.

Glad to see its not mealies and just "happy sap". They can be a real pain in the A** to get rid of!

Yup.
I read about these pesky little bugs on both some English sites as well as some Swedish ones (took a while to figure out what on earth mealies are called in Swedish though) and it seems as if they're quite reluctant to leave when they have established themselves.

Now for something completely different.

I noticed when re-potting my three-spiked Noid yesterday, that it has something growing between some of the lower leaves. I hope it's a root because what it lacks is roots and not spikes. It has three spikes already and I don't want it to bloom itself to death. Also, it has definitely claimed a spot among my absolut favourite Phals (and this without even trying).

Got a pic of your "something"? Maybe we could figure out just what it is!

I'll try to fix a picture till tomorrow, but to be honest I think it's waaaay to soon to tell 'cause it's only the tip of whatever-it-is, that has broken through the surrounding...um...eh...plant thingy, leaf stuff tissue, you know (what is the word!).

But let's see if any of you dare to hazard a guess at what it might be! Time to test those Phal skills of yours.

The winner will get a picture of your favourite orchid painted in Photoshop by me (the question is; is that not more of a punishment? )!

Soo are you going for spike or root?

A new picture of the growth will be uploaded in the "contest thread" this Sunday. Good news is; it has grown, bad news; it still looks the same only slightly bigger!
