I am playing with a download of Cattleya-Log, orchid record keeping computer software. It's free to try, up to 10 orchid records. I've been cut off at 8 though.

I mostly really do like it but there are a few things I would add to it, if I could.

I have Cattleya Log and the only problem I have is that I got it when I had way more than ten to add. I keep a list on my desk going and always add new 'chids there but the majority of them have yet to be entered in the program...it's going to be a huge job that I keep pushing off into the future.

Gwen,
This question would make a great thread for our members to participate in...would you mind if I move it into it's own space?

I use an Excel workbook -- one master sheet for orchid type, name, etc.; then sheets for each type orchid for notes, orchid type care. Have monthly calendar sheets to record dosing, spraying fungicides/pest control, etc.

I just keep a Microsoft Word document and add to it as I add to my collection. I list groups together--Cattleyas, Dendrobiums, Vandas etc. and then list each one alphabetically under each heading.

For my noids, at the end of the list, I inserted pictures of the flowers for reference.

I'm pretty new at orchids growing, so I haven't really kept a schedule of spraying, fertilizing and the like. I just do it on an as needed basis.

I use Cattleya Log as well.
It works well on my old PC, but not at all on a Mac. Anyone know of a good Mac application for keeping track of orchids?

I have an Excel Spreadsheet that I've been working with too. I think I am actually liking it better than the software packages available. . .just because it's so flexible.

If anyone wants a copy of my file to play with, just let me know and I'll email the file to you.

It's mostly geared for those new to growing orchids, who need to keep track of seasonal timer changes and light meter readings, plus all the usual required record keeping. It's still an early work in process but it's pretty & really useful. LOL

Maybe we could team work one really good version, full of all the necessary info in one place? And market it in the new support store for orchidboard?

Actually, this is a fantastic idea and I hope somehow this idea can be captured in Marty's thread about products.

I like that idea, though it wouldn't be possible to distribute the file through the support store... it's all cafe press based and I can only list products that they offer..hm.... Gwen, can I see the file? email it to me at marty at orchidboard
