Woe is me.... Female
Default Woe is me....

Mice are chewing the spikes and buds off of my plants nightly. It's show season and its starting to look like most of my plants are ruined for the season

I set traps out every night but most of the time they spring them without getting caught.

That really sucks I've not had a mouse problem were I live but used to when I was a kid and I know they can be really difficult to get rid of.

Hope you find a solution soon.

My heart goes out to you. I hate harming animals but mice can cause so much damage. We get them in our garage every autumn. Mice are really smart so you have to try variety. Use different types of traps (the new ones with the hard to reach bait cup and jaws are pretty great), place the wooden traps side-by-side, turned opposite ways (they don't expect this) place the traps in the path where the mice need to go to get the orchids and along the walls, put plenty of traps down, use peanut butter, sprinkled with bird seed, and keep the bait fresh. Mice are curious so the ramp/paper towel tube that tips and dumps the mouse into a bucket works (just use a tall one). Some people bait the traps by sewing bedding material (cotton balls, soft cloth) onto the trap. By keeping things fresh, you'll quickly get those mice. It helps if you can figure out where they are entering. To stop them from entering, steel wool/steel scrubby pads can be stuffed into holes. Putting traps near where they are entering is a good idea. For the past nine years, we had a beloved pet bunny who was put outside for the summers to graze and her food attracted mice. When she came inside, the healthy mouse population tried to follow. Thus, the various ideas. Hope you are soon mouse free!

Murphy's law proves true again. "If anything can go wrong, it will". I've also noticed that pests will always seek out the most expensive or award winning plants to attack. They never touch my least favorite orchids. Good luck.
