Yesterday, I found a free database application for my Android phone. I installed it and ceated a database scheme with the following fields:
Code:
Genus and species, text (for listing)
Genus, text (for grouping)
Rating, star rating
Flowered, drop down list for years (multiple)
Flower Pic, image (forthumbnails)
Alternative Pic
Plant Pic
Detail Pic
Number, int
Year Bought, drop down list for years (multiple)
Nursery, text (auto-complete)
Imported, drop down
Climate, drop down list for cultivation conditions (multiple)
Flowers, drop down list for months (multiple)
Cultural Notes, text
Died, empty|yes
Died Date, date
Died Reason, text
It took quite a while, but it is mega cool. I have a simpler one for my wishlist.
The best thing is that the can database automatically synchronize to a google document. So I can see and edit it on my phone and any PC. Photo functionality is also great: I can take a pic with the phone and add it to a plant, download one from PC to phone and add or just x-ref a picture on the web (e.g. my picasa pics).
Migrated my grow list and started adding some pictures. I am not quite sure I can export the database scheme. But if so, I am happy to share it. It is really going to help with plants where I am not quite sure what they are. I can add several photos (plant, detail of flowers, etc.) and when I see an expert at a nursery, etc. get some more hints.
The wishlist is also cool: if I see a plant I want, I can take a pic of a page in a book or at a show or elsewhere and at it to my list. That way I hope, I will buy only plants that I am actually looking for (-:
