My haul from the Calgary orchid show last weekend
I was in Calgary at the orchid show this past weekend and picked up a few plants.
Onc. Jiuhbao Gold 'Tainan' - (One in bloom for my friend and another for me)
C. lueddemanniana (clarines x morelia)- This has 12 PB's, all with leaves
Phrag. Hanne Popow (one fan and a new growth were separated from the main plant so I potted it separately)
Miltonia Sunset
Miltoniopsis William Hammell (I won this as a door prize at their banquet)
Most of them were bare root, but were in good shape and in most cases had massive amounts of roots. All plants are blooming size and are substantial. I thought I showed pretty good control only coming home with 6

My therapist is my hubby who recently gave me money when I was short of cash. So I could hardly come home with a bunch of 'useless' plants when I am broke!! Much less travel 650 km. to the show and stay in a hotel (shared with a friend at least). However that being said, he wouldn't say a word about my purchases and would give me $$ any day as he is a sweety

I photographed my friend's Milt. Sunset and fell in love with it so had to have one. Hope I grow it as well as her as it was in the show blooming again for the 2nd time in 6 months.
I entered that photo in the show's art competition and won a blue ribbon (1st) in the portrait category and got the trophy award for best overall in photography which was a lovely tray and two mugs with a Phal orchid pattern on them. It was a great weekend for me
Oh, I also got a 2nd place ribbon for a cute little NOID Phal. I entered!!

That's a good idea. He could charge for his services which would help pay for my orchid habit
I think we're onto something!

Congratulations on the ribbons and new purchases Silken!
They all look great!
You DID show great control, I can imagine just how hard it was.
We are driving to Montreal show on Saturday and there will be 5 plants from Ecuagenera and 7 plants from Ten Shin (hopefully all in great conditions) waiting for me. Plus I reserved the right to buy anything that jumps at me there on the sales tables. I hope I will have some control there too.

Nice haul!! And also congrats on the Milt Sunset! You can tell you friend that she's a 'bad' influence on us, I know I told you that I got one a few weeks back just because of your photo!

Have fun at the show. That's a great start to your shopping! I have had bare root plants a number of times and in general these all seemed far better than I've ever seen. I got the Onc. ones from Ching Hua and the roots were so good and massive, I couldn't believe they could stuff them into such teeny pots with a bit of moss for shipping. It was like a magician pulling more and more out of a hat when I took them out!
