Default New arrivals!

Ok, so I couldn't wait long enough for these to be Travelling Companions for the project plant - I'll just have to get a couple more (already have those picked out!) to come along for the ride.

Today a nice big box arrived from Burnhams:

Dendrobium senile:

Sophronitis coccinea:

and Scaphyglottis violacea:

and to balance out the super minis... (and before I run out of space and say I don't have room for it!) a
Dendrobium spectabile! Can you say over-compensation?!

To round things off, Gomesa crispa as well.

As you can see, I am really branching out - these are the first Dends I've ever tried. Also, the first Cattleya alliance plants I've had since I had Catts back in the 1980s in the US!

PS. The Den. spectabile is a young plant, so not so very big at the moment. The theory is that young plants are more adaptable (like young children) and I can hopefully get this one used to slightly cooler temperatures than they normally call for.

Wish me luck!

I am so laughing. . .love it!

I can hardly wait to place my project order and am shopping traveling companions too! I am barely holding out. . .Buah ha ha.

I LOVE all the orchids you picked out! Especially the "senile" one. I need one of those for my co-lection.

I am really wanting one of those big exo-terra terrariums. . .the extra large size. I might run into town today to see if I can find one, since I have the day off from work.

Enjoy your new plants. Sounds like they've found a really good home!

I am also thinking about setting up another terrarium... I will have to have a look around this weekend and see what I can find. Though I can't really do one extra large - with minis, you can fit in a lot of variety into quite a compact space!!

I'm loving my new plants... and there are more on the way! Yippee!!

Terri, I think Den. spectabile is one that you either love or hate. I have seen the flowers described as grotesque by more than one source! I just love it!! (Though I will have to wait quite few years to see flowers....)

Spot on, Ross. Though this is one of the ones that I want to set up a new aquarium for.... it needs warmer temps in the summer than its temp new home can provide.

Isn't this one the coolest little thing? I found it while we were researching project plants. Here are what the flowers look like: IOSPE PHOTOS
