receiving orchids back after a show..
so i sent some of my orchids with members of my OS to the CPOS show. i couldnt go, but i sent my plants with them for our OS display. i got them back today, and they werent in the best conditions, actually i'd venture to say bad condition.
so im wondering if this is normal? should i have excpected this when i sent them to the show? i know there is nothing i can do now, but im pretty sad though.

Hi!
I've never shown any orchids but I'd be very upset if this happened to me. If they are simply a little mangled, the damage may have happened at the show. One only needs to attend a flower show or visit a greenhouse to understand. In that case, someone should have kept their eye on the display to prevent people from touching them. If some accident happened, you should have been notified. If they were over- or under- watered or obviously mistreated, however, then at the very least, an explanation should have been given. You have worked hard to grow and bloom them. I would mention, very nicely, the difference in the condition of your plants and ask, in a sweet, polite, innocent manner if any problems occurred while they were out of your care. If you aren't satified with the reply, only show them when you can be
present. Good luck, hope they'll recover,

i sent 7 with them.. and not one came back as nice as they left. my masdie's roots look like they might rot any day now. all the blooms on my phals are torn up, missing petals, and have splashes of mud or something on them. cant get it off though. and my paph, that got a ribbon arrived back with the flowers dead. and the paph should not had dropped the flowers that quickly. :'(

That is terrible and I would express my disappointment with the current individual who runs your society/group.
Let them know for the future, NOT to ask you to show any plants if you are not attending the event.
You will feel better to say your peace and you may get an unexpected apology when through the "grapevine" it becomes known that you expected your plants to be treated better.

well i really dont want to seem like a pain in the butt after all, when a 15 year old come complaining to the president or anyone in the OS it tends to seem whiny. even if i handle myself well and am polite, and not disrespectful. and i dont want to seem whiny!
i talked to my mom about it. im just not sure what to do. on one hand, i feel liek something needs to be at least said ( even though there is nothing that can be done to fix i now) but on the other hand, i wasnt sure if this is "normal" and to be expected. and like i said earlier i dont want to come off as a whiny kid.
i guess it is partially my fault. at the last OS meeting there was an announcement that went out saying that plants were needed for the display. then afterwards i told them they could take some of mine

Bob I've worked several shows mounting and taking down the displays and I am a very meticulous person yet something happens to a couple of plants. A bloom falls off or a flower dies up too quickly. These are all consequences that we know can happen. I've had it happen even to my own plants. Remember that they aren't under the same care and conditions that you provide them at home. Some get overly sprayed with water and some at the back of the exhibit get dried out. Luckily the worse that has happened during the times that I took care of the displays were dropped blooms but this a was a massive Den. aggregatum. It is expected to have some damage in the plants that's why I only lend my strong plants like catts, vandas and oncidiums. The masdies are somewhat delicate for a display and I don't give any of my minis either. At least voice your concerns at the next meeting even if not to the president at least to a chairperson. If the plants are in such poor conditions then there is something not being done propertly.

I'm so sorry to hear this! I don't think you need to worry about being whiny. Every orchid owner treasures their orchids greatly, so I think they would understand how you're feeling. It's not like you're going there to throw a tantrum. You're just telling them what happened and asking for an explanation as to why this happened. They should be held accountable. They asked for members to bring plants in for a display, so you did them a favor.
The LEAST they could have done was treat it with the same care and respect that they would give their own plants. Perhaps after saying something, they will be more diligent in making sure it doesn't happen to someone else. I don't think you should allow anyone to handle your plants in the future.
