Vanda I looked it up lots of info . it is not an easy plant to grow goes dormant in the winter some people store it in the crisper . Said it is a bog plant with definite seasons . It probably is hardy in the right conditions .A lot of the regular plant catalogs have it like Spring Hill and others ..

Ron, I get the feeling that the people that are buying these orchids aren't people who grow them normally. These plants are touted as being "unique" and the uninformed masses flock to them thinking they are getting something special. I feel for the people who don't know what's really going on. The people selling them need to be ashamed of themselves for not giving full disclosure on how that plant is so blue and what you will end up with in the end. People that grow orchids know that these plants are fakes and that there are much more interesting and beautiful plants that get their spectacular colors and shapes in a more natural way. 5 years ago, before I started growing orchids, I may have fallen for such a plant, I am now better informed about orchids.

You are probably right, Amanda, and what reaqlly irritates me are the guys like this who take advantage of people.

sad to see such an old and well-respected company resorting to this.
30 negative feedback in one month is actually very low for a company with that volume of sales.
I haven't ordered any phals from them, but I have ordered some of their other plants, (including a shipment that arrived today) and actually had quite a good experience.

I'd hate to be the poor sucker who got ripped off by that seller.
Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough, have a look at this:
Blue Mystique - The world?s first blue Phalaenopsis orchid!
That's right...there's actually a website for this dreadful phal! But what I find really upsetting is that they deny that the plant won't rebloom blue. The actually claim that phals have some sort of miracle cleansing mechanism which allows the plants to remove pigment from their blooms.
I seriously want to go out and strangle whoever is marketing these plants. They're doing a great disservice to the hobby. So what's next? Those dyed dens we saw in another thread? I wouldn't be surprised if the people marketing them claimed that they cured ED. Sad part is, there are actually people who would believe them.

Well at least they say it will in time bloom white .
I bet the orchid breeders working on Blue Phals . would like to choke who ever thought up this monster .
Quote from the site .
Buds on your Blue Mystique blue orchid’s current stem will open to flowers in a beautiful, lighter shade of blue. A new stem will probably bring white flowers, though it is too early to know for sure. It is assumed so, because Phalaenopsis orchids have a very strong natural ‘filtering system’ that protects them in the wild. Yeah no one with a syringe full of dye

This is just the latest angle for the mass wholesale market. These types of companies aren't really orchid growers - they are just orchid sellers. NOIDS in the big box stores, just add icecubes, fake looking dye-injected, etc. It's all junk. It's the Fast Food of the orchid world.
I save my money for the real orchid businesses that nurture and support the hobby.

This thread's prompted me to write something on what to expect from "Blue Mystique" orchids. Hopefully people will do a little research before investing in one.
