The Easter Bunny left me a nice treat to 'find' this morning: my very first successful bloom ever!!!

first_bloom.jpg

It's a kind of Phalaenopsis, but I can't remember exactly what. It was given to me some months ago and this is the plant that started me down the path to becoming an Incurable Orchidophile. Hooray!

It's not open all the way yet, but I'm so excited that I wanted to share. Yesterday it was just a bloated, unsightly growth - and now it's on it's way to being pretty darn cool. So far every other bud on this plant has withered away, turning brown and dessicated, and then falling off. I was starting to worry, but now I'm very happy. Thank you Easter Bunny!

Now I'm going to see if the Easter Bunny hid any eggs for me (also bacon, toast, coffee and the Sunday paper).

Congratulations! It's always fun when they bloom, though painful to watch and wait until they do.

I really hate to turn your triumph into something other than that, but I am wondering something. You stated that the other buds withered and fell off. Was that this year or last year? If it is this year, you might want to check the potting medium and roots. Something might be going on. That's usually a warning sign that something could be amiss. Of course, it could also just be an environmental stress (i.e. when you brought it home if you were referring to last year).
