Default I finally joined my local orchid society

After years of making excuses of not having the time or not feeling like I have anything to contribute or not having enough experience with orchids etc....I went to my first orchid society meeting

I enjoyed the program and the other members were very friendly and knowledgeable!
I was delighted!

They had lots of plants that the members brought for all of us to "judge". There was a small auction and a raffle as well. They even had coffee and treats

Of course I did not come home empty handed:
C. intermedia var. orlata 'Rio'
Paph. (Otogozen x Wenshanense) 'Big Baloon' x Paph. Tokyo Black
Coel. ochracea 'Fishing Creek' CCM/AOS

After seeing me walk in with these beauties my hubby said: "Looks like you fit right in!"

I need to take your example and haul myself off to the local meeting as well. Too bad it's 2 hours away from home

Good for you. I've never attended an OS meeting, but I'd like to...some day. I keep procrastinating.

Joining my local OS was the best thing I could have done. I have made so many friends, gotten involved from that night and learned sooo much. I won't mention all the new chids that seem to follow me home from most meetings. The only thing I had to decide was which OS to join, since there were 3 within 30 minutes of me. After attending a meeting of the one closest to me I never made it to the others. I was so welcomed. Actually some of our members are also members of the other 2 societies.

When in doubt...check them out!!

Beautiful photos. Glad to hear that you had a good experience at your OS. I love the Mass OS - they're great folks.

That was a very good decision! When I first joined I was very apprehensive, and it took me a while not to feel intimidated. Now I just shake my head that I ever felt that way. I'd recommend joining to every one interested in growing orchids. After all it's the people who make the society, and everybody has growing orchids in common.

Good for you. It is always great to chat with people face to face about the wonderful addiction.

I went to my first meeting and found the people to be very helpful and fun. Sure, there were some "heavy-hitters" there that grow thousands upon thousands of orchids, but there were also your average hobbyists that only had a few.

All in all, it was a wealth of information for me - and such pretty displays of flowers, lol...

Orchid society meetings are great fun. It's kind of like AA, you feel like you finally found a group of people who understand your addiction. I really like that C. intermedia.

Glad you finally joined. My hubby has taken to coming with me- we're in deep do-do if he starts buying, too.
