A few pictures of the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens
I went to NYBG, and they have an orchid show running now till mid April. I myself was not very impressed with the types of specimens they had for show. But I was impressed by the beauty of the displays.
The reason I was a bit dissapointed was because the shop at the NYBG had more species than the show its self!
Most of the orchids in the show where hyrbids, many of them repeated tons of times. It was like you were there just to see the different ways they could arrange them.
Kinda boring.
I did manage to find some species and one or two hybrids that really caught my eye.
Here they are.
Zygopetalum maculatum
Prosthecea chimboraroensis, Check my spelling on that one please.
Phaius tankervilleae
Paphiopedilum lowii
Laelia superbiens
Arpophyllum spicatum
Cattleya x guatemalensis
No Idea what it is other than a Catt.

All are beautiful plants. That Cattleya x guatemalensis is one of the pinkest catts I've seen.

Beautiful pics!! I was hoping to go last year when I was in the US 5 months, but I arrived literally the day after the show ended!

Yeah, that is why I am not interested. I looked at some photos on the NYBG site and it just looks like some florist display with big colorful poppy hybrids.
I would be interested if it was more about horticulture, education, conservation. An orchid show that recreates different environment like a cloud forest or a swamp or an alpine mountainside... Maybe not all those environments but just some of them.
It would be more interesting to replicate how epiphytes grow in nature than showing huge flowers that do not exist in the wild.
I can see huge flowered orchids in any fancy hotel lobby or fashion store.
Tindomul - I like the photos you took - very crisp and sharp, and thanks for the scoop!

Thanks, or at the very least concentrate on species.

Well yesterday with the Brooklyn Orchid Growers MeetUp group we met with David Horak of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and he gave a rare tour where he keeps 7000 orchids not on display at the Aquatic House. He showed basically what I am into. The benches were so crowded... He is interested in conservation and propagation. Was inspiring.
