Like others have said, the Addiction wont stop and there is No Cure!
Be thankful if you are only addicted to Orchids! I know there a few members round here who have soft spots for other plants as well. Which can lead to space problems.
I myself have to be very strict on myself when going out and about
I Love Plants!

Too true Jeff! Surrounding yourself with orchid nuts does make you feel a bit more normal. That said, try explaining to a non-orchid person that you spent 3 hours last Saturday "watering the plants"!
I'm also sneaking up on 40 orchids in a short period of time.
I have to believe of all of the "addictions" that are out there, orchid collecting has to be among the least destructive. So, I think we all chose pretty well.
Here's to never finding a cure.

To paraphrase - "one is too many, 40 is not enough"
Consider that there are about 850 known orchid genera with about 28,000 known species.

The orchid bug hit me 3 years ago, and the one phal that had sat with the house plants for a couple of years suddenly jumped to 70 today (and I'm going to a show tommorow ). Believe me the addiction just goes on

My own orchid collection has grown by an order of magnitude in just a few months (i.e. add a zero to the number of orchids!) I've gone from about 6 to about 60!

LOL... The issue is that I am addicted to other plants as well. I have around 80 some odd other tropical plants in addition to the 40 orchids! Believe me, space is very limited these days, especially since many of my tropicals are larger than I am!

I have been growing orchids on and off for 40 years. Over the past 5-10 years it became more of a hobby (obsession) than ever before. The collection grew from a reasonable 50 to about 225 over 3-4 years. Last summer I had to build a pergola/shadehouse addition onto my house for them. I think 200 is about the most you can really enjoy. I think 100 or even 50 plants is reasonable and each plant will get more attention and look better.
