This past weekend I attended the orchid show at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. It's been a few years since I was last able to attend as GR is quite a drive for me, particularly if the weather is bad. Despite this, I still made the drive as it is one of the better shows within a reasonable distance for me. I also like it as there are often plants there that I do not get to see at other shows either because it is the wrong season or the grower does not attend the other shows closer to me.

So to ease everyone into things, we will start with pics of some of the displays .......

Now for individual plants.......

I do apologize in advance for some of the photos. I was forced to use a flash due to the lack of sufficient natural lighting. I generally dislike using a flash as it tends to washout colors or I get a great deal of glare off shiny surfaces.

I thought this was rather nifty. I don't think I've ever seen a phal "ball" before. Unfortunately with the ball's location, the white flowers kind of get lost in the white background.

Saw a LOT of "bulldog"/"toad" paphs at this show. First time I can remember seeing so many. So here they are along with some phrags and typical paphs:

One of the blackest vinis I think I have ever seen. Please overlook the "orangy" areas -- that was due to reflected light off the sepals.

Rather pleased with how this shot came out

I found this one quite interesting --- a bit different than any I can recall seeing before

Now not that I was intentionally ignoring the catts or other alliances ... but few of the shots came out well of them at all. The flash was just not kind to them and the flash's glare either washed the colors out or wiped out the flowers' details. What follows were the only shots worth showing of all the non paphs/phrags.

The satiny texture made it virtually impossible to get the color right on this one. It was quite fetching.

I believe this one is a cross of Masd floribunda x imposter

Can't grow Milts but I sure wish I could

I've got to make the drive over there for the next one. Thanks for sharing and giving me some more plants to add the the wish list.
