I never kill them, just unthinkable. I do however tend to forget them and let them die of thirst.
Well that how I justify it. I didn't do it on purpose.

Ofcourse that is bad, dry plants tend to be vulnerable to mites and other bugs, which then infect the rest of my collection. So I should be more honest with myself and the orchids and just kill them upfront.

I cull usually for disease reasons....too many I have not experianced yet ..but I did share one this summer that I had several of and only needed one realy ...

I am about to cull one that I have been rescuing for years for a friend over and over and it is finaly time to quit trying with it ...it is growing but has little hope and while the same types in the same location are growing and even attempting to bloom this one is just surviving ....guess Ill will put it out today since we are talking about culls

Well, Bob, I don't know, how long have you been growing? Don't feel bad about passing on your stagnant wrinklies, I got a bunch from someone who was cutting down his collection. They came nearly rootless, wrinkly and full of scale. They are on the road back to health though. New environment and different care....

That's basically what I do. Last summer when they could be outside I acquired more than I really have room for indoors. One plant was especially large and only bloomed once a year. I waited till it was in bloom and sold it at my orchid society (which is where I had gotten it in the first place). I haven't culled too many just yet, but i feel a spring cleaning coming on.....

Stagnant and wrinkly? Got some of those! Me too, I hate trashing anything that I paid money for. So I've got some pretty ugly and scraggly ones, that are barely clinging on to life. You should see my Den moniliforme. It looks mostly dead. If you really want a picture, i can do that! Never bloomed for me and refuses to grow despite all my care, and then I slowly started neglecting it since it wasn't being cooperative. Really hate tossing this one as it's an import from the USA.

Then there's my Beallara Peggy Ruth Carpenter. It was beautiful and bloomed faithfully for a few years, then suddenly went downhill. Now it's a clump of measely wrinkled half dead bulbs. Don't know what happened, but love it to much to trash it.

The Dutch postal service did a good job of culling my orchids. When I went to Cornell U last spring-summer, I sent my favorite orchids (15 of them) to Rosie in the UK to orchidsit, since I didn't trust my mom with them. The package got lost.
