Grammy1- thanks for the laugh ;) I mean, thanks Grandma! We'll catch those jerks next time...

Susie- Thank you so much!! I'm so excited to have some new orchid babies, and this time they'll be kept indoors where my Grandma can keep an eye on them.

Also, that is a great idea I hadn't thought of! There are gardeners who come weekly to my grandmother's house, and have access to both the gated and ungated portions of the yard. The dog is also kept inside only on that day, because she's not a dog that likes people in "her" yard so she would have been howling up a storm if she were outside when it happened.

My grandma has had the same gardeners for years though and they don't tend to the orchids or even that portion of the yard, but they certainly would have known they were there, maybe they even noticed them because they were flowering. They would also have the trucks to load all of the pots in. Now how to go about questioning / finding out... that's a toughy :/

I would call the gardening service not accuse but ask if there were any new employees coming to your house to work and that you are having video of the yard reviewed by a professional . a small lie ...

Susie, that is very kind. I don't have a lot of babies or duplicates to contribute, but I am putting out a call to all of you here to share whatever you can to help our fellow board member keep her grandma in flowers. Who is willing to contribute?

I just want to remind everyone that Grammy1 (me-Jeanie in Lexington, KY) is not the same Grandma in the original post to this thread. My plants were stolen last summer. I am rebuilding my collection and am doing fine. Thanks for your replys to my post. It is devastating when creeps steal our pretties!

I have had plants taken in the past....landscaping plants. It baffles me, as well. Jeez, go to Lowes or Home Depot on your own time and get your own plants was my thought. As of yet, I have been really fortunate about my orchids. Although, I have heard of folks who have hosted a greenhouse tour, only to have been cleaned out the next day. The two I heard about were both in Houston, Tx. The other members said it was frighteningly common. A "new member" will show up to tour the greenhouse and then, return at some point and clean them out. Like you, I don't understand that, at all. I would be more than happy to form a goon squad and kick their butt(s) if you like. I am reading this a little late, so you could have already done so....

I have also been the victim of greenhouse theft and I know exactly who did it (although not his name) He had visited my place three times during business hours and had tried to buy one of my personal plants. I refused to part with it. Then on a friday evening I caught him lurking in my garden and made him leave. two days later he came back during the night and stole that plant and several others from my personal collection and to top it off he "vandalized " many of my oriental cymbidiums by removing the tags and throwing them on the floor so I could no longer identify which was which. I was so devastated it was one of the reasons I decided to go out of business.

Scum bags are multiplying like ticks I am afraid it will get worse .
Had the ATV stolen a few years ago I think I know who did it but can't prove it .
If closer I would lend you my 100lb. plus Great Dane and his nasty side kick Sissy they think everything is their personal stuff lolol

I am so sorry I am not alone in going through the hearbreak of losing plants I loved to meanies who probably don't know how to care for them. I like the idea of a Great Dane to guard them! My Doxie and Yorky are good at sounding the alarm but can't back it up. Luckily I have five beauties in bloom right now to make me smile.
