In order to celebrate my first real job (which I landed even before graduating which is quite a feat in this economy) and as a b-day present to myself, I ordered some orchids. I had just dragged myself out of bed this morning to get ready for work when the delivery man rang the doorbell. What a wonderful way to start the day!
Of course I was late for work, I needed to unpack everyone and take pictures!
I got:
Phal. I-Lan 'Green Pixie' : I used to have one of these, but having gotten it from a bad vendor it died a few months later of root rot. IMO the coloring was better on my previous one, but this one has better form.
Phal. I-Hsin Salmon 'Copper Star' : Wonderful color on this one! A shame the pollen caps got knocked off during shipping, the blooms won't last very long...
(Both these Phals were sold as mature non blooming plants, but they came in bloom).
Phal mannii 'dark': I had a Phal mannii 'chocolate' (looks exactly like 'dark') which was one of the victims of the lost package of orchids that I was sending to Rosie to babysit in the spring. I'm especially happy with this one, it was supposed to be 18 months from blooming, and it has 2 spikes happily growing.
Aerangis citrata: In spike. It's potted in sphag, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't prefer to be mounted. Anyone know?
Phal equestris x Kingidium minus (Phalaenidium Donna's Delight): I think the cross should technically be a Phal, since I believe that Kingidium has become Phalaenopsis. 2 years from blooming, but this is a recent cross and the grower expects quite nice blooms from it. Didn't take a picture of it.
I am extremely pleased with this german grower (Schwerter-Orchideenzucht), the plants are well worth the 22,50€ of shipping costs. Well packed, also with 2 heat packs included free of charge. I'd heard lots of good things about Schwerter, and I'll definitely be shopping there again!
