Default Had a great excuse to get more orchids :)

In the lab of entomology where I work it is customary for new employees to have their photo taken to go up on 'The Wall', with all the others. One of the nice things about these pics is that they ask you to bring an object which best defines you. Well in my case it's obviously an orchid! Now the problem is that I don't have anything in bloom at the moment (except for a mini). But you would agree that this is easily fixable, right?

So I went to the garden center, and found a beautiful Brassia in the clearance rack (for 5€ ). The only problem is that it's not very colorful and might not turn out well in the pic. Then a beautiful pink-bronze phal catches my eye which would be perfect, but there's no way for me to put down the Brassia, the pot is 'glued' to my hand! So I got both!

Sorry for the bad phal pic, I need to try again in daylight, but I couldn't wait until tomorrow!

Only problem with the phal is that it's potted in hard packed sphag and SOIL. Peeked at the roots before buying and luckily they're OK. I'll repot it this weekend.

They're both very nice, Camille! Take a black backdrop with you and use both in your lab photo.

Unfortunately the pics are photoshopped onto a white background, so I don't know how the Brassia will stand out. I'll bring both with me! My colleague making the shots wants as much color as possible. The pics look like this: http://bugsinthepicture.com

I checked out that web site- that is so cool! I can't wait to see your picture. Perhaps you could make it your avatar.

Great reason to buy more

I wouldn't have been able to put that Brassia down either... those sticky pots are all too common on Orchids I find

Sounds like you need to start a new trend. Expound upon how use of different colored backgrounds would add to the colorfulness of the portrait area (not to mention how it would enhance the color of your chids)

This morning I found out a great thing about the Brassia, it's super fragrant! Didn't smell at all yesterday evening.

What a lovely plant and what an interesting group of people you work with! Good luck with the photo shoot, and don't worry the Brassia will show up as long as you don't wear green!
