hi ya'll....my sis got married yesterday, and i was in charge of flowers, so i raided my greenhouse and pulled a bunch of dendrobium (for the bouquet) phalaenopsis, and vandas to use....i stripped my greenhouse of flowers! it was well worth the sacrifice, my sis appreciated it and looked fabulous! the men all had phal boutonieres....here is how its done....
first you get florists wire and tape....bend the wire pieces into hairpin shapes and wrap them over the column of the flower, then take the tape and tightly wrap the wire and stem all the way down....i use about 8-10" pieces of wire....then you put your fern (i have leatherleaf growing in the gh too) fronds on the wire and wrap that with tape...take a pencil or pen and twirl the leftover wire into a corkscrew shape, add a corsage pin and the boutonieres are done! for the bridal bouquet, i wired a bunch of blue rothschildiana vanda and some bright pink princess misaka vandas and placed them over the dendrobium stems and wired the whole lot together with fern...it looked beautiful!
