"Bat Plant" ?

I'm curious to know if anyone has had one of these and how much success you had with it. It's a very intriguing flower and I'm thinking I might purchase one...

A friend of mine had one and it took him about two years for it to bloom. He brought it to my house and I had a photographer friend come and do a four hour session with the "flower". Quite amazing...I'll try to find the pic and post it.

fantastic! I didnt even know they came in that color! We ordered some seeds at a hydroponic store i used to work in, and it took them 8 months to germinate...

and your lovesong looks lovely!

Just so you know
The plants will look more like the picture you posted...very dark and black.
That is the way it looked to me in my kitchen.
When my friend came to take the pictures, he only had a simple polarizing lens on the front of his camera; but the flash and lighting created the fantastic colors you are seeing! Only through the camera lens!
Almost like light on an oil slick
Either way, very fascinating plant.

PS. Lovesong is blooming again right now...dormant for almost two years after I bought it and now I barely have opening of time to repot <3

Just found this post while looking for tips on my NOID believed to be Pagan Lovesong. It's been driving me spare: bought in very bad condition (probably 2 inches of black roots) and has been doing basically nothing since I got it, must be 9 months ago. Your description of yours being dormant for 2 years gives me hope!

It actually got knocked out of it's pot a few weeks ago, and I thought there was a sign of a triangular growth on one side, so maybe a new pulb forming (though may just have been missed when I got it and re-potted!). The room it's in has been cold recently so I've moved it into a warmer dryer room. And it's losing the leaf off it's smallest pulb. Grrrr Pulbs and leaves look otherwise OK, so I'm hopeful I'll keep the pulb even without leaves on it.

I currently have 4 of these guys. Two of each Tacca chanterieri and Tacca integrifolia.

I, like you, had stumbled across these guys years back and absolutely fell in love with them ... to keep a long story short I must have killed at least 10 plants before I got one to thrive. They seem to like HIGH humidity and moderate light.

If they're not happy from the start they will start to decline almost immediately. My 4 thrived all summer and once they came inside started to decline. I think I may have lost one or both of the white bats ... but both of my black bats sit in the cellar in darkness dormant. I'm starting to see little nubs of foliage as I start to slowly increase watering to bring them back into the house and soon outside.

IME, I tried many seedlings and they all dwindled out rather quickly. It wasn't until I dropped 140$ for a 11 growth blooming plant - that I got one to live. Seedlings are just too sensitive to experiment and find the conditions that they like ... because by that time they were already past saving.
