Been there, done that more than once! It doesn't get any easier with repetition!

Help, you can't propagate from a Den spike like you sometimes can with Phals.

Just today, I was moving my Pescatorea lehmannii, and ended up ripping some leaves off a fan (they got stuck between my arm and the wall, and snap! Off they went). It's a slow-growing plant, so any leaves lost take a while to be replaced.
