A question for all you allergy sufferers...
Do your orchids kick up your allergies, like other flowers do? Just curious.

not that I've noticed. Someone posted once that orchids don't spew the pollen out all over like most other flowers. I don't know if that's true or not tho.

I have never noticed it either. I have a few that are fragrant and I take a whiff all the time without any problems.

Not for me. Thank goodness! I'm only sensitive to the evergreens and boy do they do a number on me.

Doctor Connie Says:
Orchids don't discharge any pollen into the air, so they should be the perfect houseplants for allergy sufferers.
Some pollens are worse than others, and they vary by climate, of course. Conifers, aka gymnosperms, are among the worst. So are some deciduous tree pollens. Some years are worse than others.
Then there is the issue of irritant versus allergy. Some people who feel that they are allergic to dust because dust clouds make them sneeze are really experiencing irritation by the particles. Interestingly, dust allergy is really an allergy to the proteins in the dust mites that live in the dust.
Thank good ness for antihistamines!

the only chid I've ever had a bad reaction to was Blc George King 'Serendipity'
It's gorgeous and I love it but I have to sniff it from a big distance...too close and I can't breathe well for days
