It's marshland there, it's on lake Erie. It has few dunes, so the sandy areas are good habitat for the cactus. More info here:

I knew it! Opuntia humifusa! Edible fruit, and grows on the salt water marshes, beaches and any sandy soil up and down the east coast of North America. Yummy fruit too!

The one and the same. I went to Caumsett State Park for the first time on the Monday, after Palm Sunday. Did some fossil hunting, and along the way I saw one of the Patches they have. I have seen this Prickly pear all over Long Island beaches, thanks in Part to someone I know who has spread them around. Not me I swear!

Yea, they will grow there as well, but I thought this was next to the sea.

I wish! I'd love to feel some salt water air on my face right now Like being at a spa.... By the way, I have tried a few threads asking about the new MSU fertilizer I bought yesterday...if you can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

What do you mean? You've tried to start new threads but couldn't?

I have asked the MSU question in two other threads, but no replies yet. I guess I have to be patient. It's just that I want to water tonight with my new fertilizer. I thought I would take this opportunity to ask you!

Oh, what are you using? What kind of water, and what kind of MSU? That is, is it ment for tap, or distilled water etc.... I usually use 1 1/2 teaspoons of MSU per gallon of water.
