Just to follow up, we award plants that aren't registered all the time. Sometimes that is the only way to get them registered!

We love to see new things, as long as you know what the parents are, bring it in. Can't do much if we don't know the parents.

Awards are provisional until the crosses are registered. You are expected to _try_ to find the originator of the cross. If you do not know or cannot find the originator, you may register it yourself as O/U (originator unknown).

Thanks Rob

This would be an easy one...I got it from Exotic Orchids of Maui at Redlands on May 22, 2005

I think I'm going to send a photo to Mike and the gang out in Hawaii

Question Question

What do you do if you know the originator is deceased?

Hubby and I are caring for some orchids at the Botanic Gardens which were donated by the late Dr. Pridgen's wife (both are now deceased).

Some of the Phal crosses he made are now blooming and I am encouraging the Gardens to register them.

Some of them I have discovered are registered but there are a few unregistered (at least in RHS). I don't have OrchidWiz (yet) so don't know about in the USA.

If they're registered, they would be in the RHS.

I know there's a process that you can go through to have it named/registered if the originators are not available but I am not familiar with how it works.

I'm sure somebody with more knowledge on the subject will step in and educate both of us

It's actually quite simple:

If you know the originator is deceased, but you are sure they are the originator of the cross, just state that in the application. Obviously they cannot give approval.

If it is an O/U (originator unknown) situation, simply state the efforts you went to attempting to ID the originator.

I have a phalaenopsis cross that I went 1) to the vendor I got it from, and 2) to the vendor THEY got it from, who had no idea where they got it. My application stated "Search to identify originator reached a dead-end two generations of ownership prior to mine". It is now Phalaenopsis First Rays Amethyst.

1. Where do you get the registration App?
2. Do you recommend registering a name right after you make a cross in flask, or waiting to see if it turns out to be special in some way.

P.S. Sue those were beautiful blooms.
