Orchid Fever is a collection of essays that relate to orchids, their history and place in a variety of cultures. It is very interesting--lots of human interest stuff. I really enjoyed it.

Once I saw the Orchid Thief's movie, I couldn't get it OUT OF MY HEAD....

Orchid Fever is the whole reason I started buying these darn things. I just had to be one of those silly people in the book.
We have local connection to the book here in Rochester as well. Bloomfield Orchids owner Joe is in there somewhere.

Austen, Bronte, that sort of thing. Nothing do to with the orchids.

I've also seen some people recommend The Orchid in Lore and Legend by Luigi Berliocchi as a good read. I have a copy, might read it next unless I decide to give The Orchid Thief another try. This thread piqued my interest a bit so I'm willing to see if it grows on me.

my favourite of Dickens is "Little Dorrit".
Any one interested in mystery fiction?
I recommend "Deadly Slipper" & "Orchid
Shroud" respectively By Michelle Wan

So we're moving from Dickens to Susan Orleans? What an amazing jump!

Suffice to say, there was certainly an uproar down in the South Florida orchid community when that rag came out. Some felt there were some nasty references to growers in the area. :

I read it, but it's been a while. The movie was a waste of celluloid. The book was OK.
