I was only able to attend the show yesterday as I had to be in California for my father in law's memorial service. My good friend Carol (quiltingwacko) offered to set up my plants for me last Friday if I could get them to her house sometime before then. I think I ended up with 9 plants in the show. I won 6 blue, 1 red, and 1 white ribbons. Two of my plants were nominated for an AOS award (
) but ultimately not awarded. They were Dtps. Malibu Merlot which was nominated for an AOS award last year, and Paph. Ho Chi Minh. The tag on the Ho Chi Minh was marked as delenatii but I've had my doubts about that being correct since it's first bloom. One of the judges is a Paph. expert and confirmed what I had suspected all along. The Dtps. Malibu Merlot won best Phal. hybrid in the show, and my Odcdm. Wildcat 'Carmela' won best Onc. hybrid in the show. It was a fun day even though I was not feeling great (started getting that ooogy cold that's been going around). I took a few pictures but they didn't turn out very well.
I donated 5 plants to the sale table. They were too big for my space, or I wasn't all that thrilled with them. I purchased 4 new plants. Paph. helenae, Phal. fasciata, Phal. cornu-cervi var alba, and Bulb. Kalimpong (guttulatum x ornatissimum). I also tossed 3 that were not doing much of anything and had issues. So I'm down by 4 plants.
I'm trying to get the collection down to a more managable size since I have to water everything by hand. If I can get it down to 70-75 I'll be happy.
