Spring is finally here
Spring finally arrived in the Mid-Atlantic with my first species crocus of the year; C. tommasinianus and C. ancyrensis 'Golden Bunch'. I am so stoked!!!
Crocus tommasinianus
Crocus ancyrensis 'Golden Bunch'
Tommies are about 1/4 to 1/3 the size of the common Dutch Crocus and C. ancyrensis are about the size of a penny expanding to about a nickle when fully opened.
I love Crocus. (sigh)
Cheers.

The Crocus around my neighborhood were out and blooming on Friday, and I also saw some Veronica persica in bloom on Friday as well. Very nice signs of spring!! Plus, I am getting cabin fever, thats the other sign.

So pretty!! You're so lucky you can see ground already. I bet the Dahlia growers in your area are all unpacking and examining their tubers right now.

First crocus of the season finally opened by my back door. 2 tiny patches are it for now, but a most welcome sight. Yeah spring!

Spring is finally here
The Ipheon Uniflorum are starting to bloom. I have had daffodils since November and new ones are popping up as we speak. Leucojum are in full bloom. The spring magnolias are opening, hippeastrum are starting to sprout-time for a treatment of Physan 20 on them. And the Iris Unglicaris continues to bloom.
I looked through my garden diary a few days ago and the garden is several weeks behind. I had a Crinum bulbispermum blooming by this time last year and a hippeastrum Papilio, too.

The potholes are getting bigger also, a sure sign of Spring in the Northeast US.

Here in Schenectay NY I don't have crocus or snowdrops yet, but we sure have plenty of potholes! On the brighter side, I saw grackles, redwings, and bluebirds in my yard over the weekend--that must count for something!

Beverly;
My Ipheons all look like cooked spinach right now. The snow was really tough on them this year.
My Hippeastrums have been blooming all winter! Of course they're indoors. I'm thinking of trying H. johnsonii out doors this year. It's supposed to be marginally hardy here, so with a little extra mulch... My H. 'Papilio' bloomed for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They look even better in person!
Have you tried H. reticulatum var. striatifolium? I picked one up from Nurseries Caroliniana.
Cheers.

Spring
Georgeous! Of course, all my amaryllis family bulbs live outdoors: Crinums, hippeastrums, rhodophiala, zephranthes, etc, etc. I just looked this morning and the hipps. are sure taking their time. I might have Iris and daylilies before them.
