Well they are predicting we will get an inch of rain where I live by the end of the week......and that's in the middle of summer. So it will fill up my fresh water tank if we really get that much and that will get me through the rest of summer.

Bring on the rain!!!

I know you guys are probably miles ahead of me in rainy Britain in ways of skimping on water, but something I do when running the tap for the hot water is to collect all the cooler water that comes through in a jug before it gets hot. I use this for watering plants.

I've done this ever since we got a water meter.

"Grey" water from showers, baths and washing machines can be used to flush lavatories. Also we have a flush limiter which only works while you hold it - so you stop flushing as soon as it's clear.

"I wish I could get one of those units that take the humidity out of the air ,I believe they are able to supply you with 60 liters of water per day !"

Des, you have to have humid air, and if it's not raining, I doubt you have! Although they might work if you sited it in a bathroom, for example

I collect all of my water from a window a/c. and rain. I have tested the condensation water from may a/c and it test pure. I only run it at night for about 8 hrs. and collect about 4 to 5 gallons a day. So if you have a a/c try and collect the water.

At this time of the year we have about 60%humidity during the day and 100% at night . This is as we are only 5 kms from the coast
Its been another tough week having to having to find water for my plants . We still have had no rain to speak of ,this has been the dryest period I have ever experienced
I have been investigating the possibility of drilling a borehole as they say that water can be found at about 12 meters down ,but at a cost of R30000! this is out of the question for me . If I were younger I would dig down 12 meters myself !!

Sounds dismal, but it is true that right now there is a major water crisis through out the world. Most people here in the US are unaware of it, and those of us who are forget about it quickly. I am guilty as charged.

We have had a small amount of rain ,enough to give me about 2000 liters in my tank ,I am rationing this to to only the best of my plants each plant will get about 500 mils of water a day . This City will run out of water in about two months and that will bring on a catastrophe never experienced here before . industry will come to a grinding halt and I expect many will have to move away to areas which have water . Once before when Ford removed its factory here the city was dubbed with the name "the ghost on the coast "and its looks as though that is about to happen again ,we will be hearing comments like "will the last one out switch off the lights "!!!
