Default Glasgow Botanic Gardens orchid collection

Took a quick opportunity to visit the orchid collection at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens this weekend. It was a hot, humid and completely blissful half hour!

I intend to go back next year when there will hopefully be more blooms but in the mean time I thought I'd share the photos of the blooms they have this chilly December.

And a couple more...
I've put the rest in a gallery - keep crashing the computer trying to load them up!

Great photos - just goes to show that orchids can cope even with the shorter days we have in Britain, it's easy to forget we are a lot further north than many of the others on OB because of our relatively mild climate.

I know, right! They didn't even have any artificial light... just a very warm, wet greenhouse! My hair doubled in volume!

They are both well worth the trip! On first glance I thought there were only one or two in bloom but there were actually dozens! We were actually able to walk there from my friend's house - think she might be seeing a lot of me this summer!
