The Biggest of the Big? Male
Talking The Biggest of the Big?

I was reading the "Smallest of the small" thread, and I was wondering: What are the largest orchids? The one that comes to my mind is Grammatophyllum speciosum, but I can't think of any other orchid monsters.

Some of the antelope type (Spatulata) Dendrobiums have bulbs/canes that are over six feet tall.

Supposedly some species of vanilla can reach 35 meters in height - this would be over 100 feet.

I think the Gramm is by far the largest and Vanilla the tallest. I checked on Orchidwiz, there is an awarded Gramm speciosum in Australia which had 31 spikes, 2300 blooms and measured 3 meters wide and 2 meters high. It was judged 'in situ', I'm guessing because there's no way to move such a monster!
