Default Orchids harmed....

I hate to be judgemental, but, don't you own a decent ladder or sturdy step stool? What he did was terribly dangerous and could have resulted in some serious harm. Before you do this again think about the way you will go about it so as to avoid such a result.
(My DH was an electrician and as such, is very conscious about ladder safety)

My shelves go around three sides of the gh and are 4.5 ft deep by ~3.5 feet high. If you think about the angle on a ladder, there is no safe way to reach across the 4.5 foot depth plus the extra distance generated by each step up the ladder. It's a design flaw, but he was being generous to my rather large collection, so I don't fault him for it. It wasn't something we foresaw until we saw it. He wasn't climbing on the shelves, but once one reaches across that distance from that height on the ladder, or any height for that matter, one's foot naturally seeks a stabilization point. The edge of my shelf was the nearest spot....and, it did not hold. I almost need one of those window washer seats that can be height adjusted...it would be getting into that would be the trick. He's an aerospace engineer and has done some of the most amazing work. With most engineers I have met, they don't understand until they experience. I am just grateful that no serious injuries occurred. But, I do foresee new and better shelves, though in my future.

Major bummer, I know how you felt. I had a near fatality just last week with my Bc. Makai and that's just one plant and I was almost hyper-ventilating.

You're safe, hubby's safe and the vendors are waiting to hear from you. Truly sorry tho!

vmax.

Glad no one was hurt.

All of these posted suggestions would be very useful under normal circumstances. However, your post of 11.20 holds the ultimate solution to your problem.

Your hubby is an aerospace engineer. The solution is obvious ... have him build you a gravity free greenhouse. You wouldn't even need any benches for your plants and no one would be falling off ladders.
