My shelves go around three sides of the gh and are 4.5 ft deep by ~3.5 feet high. If you think about the angle on a ladder, there is no safe way to reach across the 4.5 foot depth plus the extra distance generated by each step up the ladder. It's a design flaw, but he was being generous to my rather large collection, so I don't fault him for it. It wasn't something we foresaw until we saw it. He wasn't climbing on the shelves, but once one reaches across that distance from that height on the ladder, or any height for that matter, one's foot naturally seeks a stabilization point. The edge of my shelf was the nearest spot....and, it did not hold. I almost need one of those window washer seats that can be height adjusted...it would be getting into that would be the trick
. He's an aerospace engineer and has done some of the most amazing work. With most engineers I have met, they don't understand until they experience. I am just grateful that no serious injuries occurred. But, I do foresee new and better shelves, though in my future.
