It's so nice to see new posts in this thread!
It makes me happy to see that the environment we try to uphold here seems to be a big reason that new folks are always joining our community.

I enjoyed reading the posts on this thread. Why did I come to OB? Well, I attend the WOC in Miami, FL. FANTASTIC show, btw. After recovering from all of the sensory overload, I went through my swag bag and found a card about the OB. I joined soon after, as I didn't want to loose the "high" from the WOC so fast. It's been great to browse through galleries and trade orchids and make friends that ooze orchid talk....you guys offer a service - you are easing my spousal unit's pain, as he doesn't have to listen to me blither on about the latest event, bloom, something associated with my hobby/habit!

Way cool, Vanessa!
Cheryl and I left a few hundred of the OB promo cards around the venue at the WOC
We asked permission to leave a few at the front table and a few minutes later the lady I had spoken to was looking for us because she needed more

Oh! That was YOU???
Thanks about the avatar
The bulb is sitting there looking nice but not doing anything at all. As long as it's not turning to mush or something like that, I can be patient
Have a Merry Christmas

Just found this thread - great idea.
Why did i join? Well I checked this out and a couple of British ones when I was looking for info and you are far friendlier and there seemed to be less cliquishness about the postings - you are always patient. The widespread geographic location of the members appealed to me too - we are all pretty much in the same boat in that respect but it leads to more information about habitat from people who live where orchids grow.
The other thing I like is the quality of the photographs and the enthusiasm of everyone to try and help. Plus the off topic stuff can be fun too.

i like to learn about my chosen hobbies, be they reptiles, orchids, whatever... and I don't take myself too seriously.
I came here after looking at LOTS of orchid sites and found friendly and fun people that didn't make me feel stupid, or think I am a snob or such for not posting alot (i'm actually very shy).... and so here I am.
Thanks OB members for making this such a great forum.
