Wow, you've got a great collection!!
I feel perfectly the same about Phals, I love them and I have a good feeling with them.
My collection consists in about 30 different species of Phal with only 3 seedlings (and only 1 very big plant).
I know that here they're cheaper and so even a penniless student like me can afford it

NB: leucorrhoda is not a species but the natural hybrid aphrodite x schilleriana

I had never discussed about pronunciation with not-Italian growers and... I am thunder-struck!
Scientific names are Latin and I don't really think that ancient Latin people would pronounce a mannii MANNI-EYE!!!
Here in Italy we pronounce it "mannEE", "lowEE" etc etc.

I wait for your pronunciation!!!
In France it is the same. Lowii is prononced LOWEE and not Low EYE. Proably since we are latin languages are have likely retained many of the prononciations of the ancient Romans who invaded our countries. (just a guess).

I don't know how I'm meant to pronounce them but I say LowEE and MannEE as well. I've only every seen them written so no one has told me what they should be.

I've had spikes sit idle for a year and then erupt. Phals are kind of finicky, Al, and do what they want to do when they want to do it. Especially the species. I feel certain that yours will soon take off.

Besides, mine only blossom because I've told them that if they don't I'll feed them to the dogs. Fear works wonders!
