Barb,

I thought so. I have not been able to get that many pups on a cryptanthus unless it was sitting outside on the porch for the summer or if it was in the school's greenhouse.

Best,

Really Justin? I didn't think this was anything unusual. This one must have had 15 just in the last 2 months. I think it's amazing for such a little thing.I probably help it along by taking the pups at a very early age. Barb

Well, it really isn't that unusual since you are using natural light. It would be unusual to accomplish the same thing with artificial light. I have not been able to duplicate natural light I guess. Nice greenhouse by the way!
I am sooo jealous.

Thank you. As I write, we are adding on the back side of it.It will be a 6x8 twin wall polycarbonate one. This is for my 'monster' plants.Hubby is kicking them out of the big one this winter. It will have a 24 inch foundation under it just to make the height adequate.

I got this Screw Pine to kill for. Now I know you guys in Florida wouldn't think it was so great but to us northerners, it's out of sight. He actually gets tied up with sisal twine like a Christmas tree to live in the grenhouse, for the whole winter. He is very happy in the spring. That is my 10 foot tall baby. I have to look into cutting him in half or airlayering him.

Barb :~)

I only have 2 broms so I'm not very experienced at all unless you count how many I've had in the past that are no longer with us I bought one a few months ago and of course, the bloom turned brown pretty quickly but the plant stayed healthy looking. I spoke to somebody at my orchid meeting that is more experienced with broms and he told me I should ignore them more. I did and the plant grew a bit! This was encouraging so I went and bought another one. This one has a bloom that just won't quit and as I was watering everything the other day, I noticed an extra plant growing on the side of it! Did some research, found out it's a "pup" and then found 2 of them on my original plant!!! Is it better to let them stay where they are or to remove them and begin new plants?

Let them stay until ther are nice and big and have roots of their own. Thats what I have read time and time again. I've also read that the mother plant will now slowly waste away. But in return you get lots new babies.

I'll keep an eye out for roots on the pups. I read somewhere that if I remove the pups, the mother plant will produce more of them and if I leave the pups attached, they will get their nutrition from the mother plant and grow well. I guess I'll be doing more research.
