they really think we were mad if we suggested that. They'd go else where looking for 'better' advice'

That is a great story Sue! The newbies, probably already think we are all mad! But, if they are like me, they do what more experienced growers tell them.

I never tried the sphag and bag method, always made me think that mold would set in and finish the plant off.

I have 3 catts, I just potted in tiny pots and water once a week, or when I remember. 2 of them are doing great, about to bust out of those tiny little pots I made from the bottom of water bottles. The other isn't doing as good with roots, but giving me new growth, I guess the roots will come later.

Dens go directly to OICU (that's Orchid Intensive Care Unit). It's basically smooth river stones in a plastic container, with water in the bottom, just below the rootless plant. Mist daily with SuperThrive and watch the roots and canes grow! It's worked for me.
Now I just need some 2" pots to re-pot a paph I have over potted and the 2 dens that are ready to come out of OICU. Off to CalWest I go!

LOL
I just somehow don't think this method will work as well in California as it does in Florida - I do have a plant I am tempted to try with tho lol

Well hallelujah!!! I confess every time I sphag/bagged a chid it molded and these were ones I raised in my grow room inside my house. I was starting to get a complex.......... Catts are great for the sink or swim method.......WTG Sue!
