My condolences Susanne…I feel your pain… I have a 4 year old in the house that has been known to touch things she’s not supposed to…This child will either grow up to be a plant lover or a hater…lol…when I had to bring all my Orchids inside plus quite a few other tropicals during those few days of a freeze talk about it being a tense situation. My husband was lectured repeatedly,” DO NOT LET HER GET CLOSE TO THE PLANTS WHILE I AM GONE FROM THIS HOUSE!!!” I was so happy when I could put everything back outside…

I'm so sorry, Sue! That is heartbreaking, to say the least. They are so temperamental to begin with.
But thanks for sharing about the screaming, because we heard something way up here in Maine, and frankly it scared the crap out of me, but now I understand what that blood-curdling scream was all about. Whew!

I've had slugs devour whole flower buds in hours between my last checking on them (2 am) and real wakeup time (6:00 am). I didn't know I was so fluent in invented languages. Luckily these were all Masdevallias and the plants had alot of flowers coming.

Sorry to hear the sad news, this always seems to happen when you have waited for what seems a long time for the plant to flower.
Here's a tip,If you have to tie a spike or use a clip, wait until about noon, by then the spike and plant will have warmed up a bit and the spike on most orchids will be more pliable to bend.

You guys are all so sweet to care...and way too funny in your responses!

This "accident" happened almost a year ago and although there's no sign of a spike, there are two new fans growing happily so I'm just being patient

I looked at the date, Sue, but couldn't resist putting in my I hadn't seen this thread before, so had to run with it.
I have no idea what you all are having for weather, but here it is snowing one minute, raining the next, then sleet to come soon as it's hovering about freezing temps now. So much excitement that I had to tear myself away and check out everyones posts!
This is channel kiki-do news with the latest weather update.
Adios!

We sent that to you from Michigan. You're welcome! Woke up the AM to 8" of really heavy wet stuff that fell on bare ground. I said "no snowblower for this little amount" then changed my mind after trying to shovel it. Took my wife and I over an hour to clear our little part of the world. Oh, did I say "You're welcome?"

Sue, I didn't look at the dates of the original post... or if I saw it, it just didn't register!! However, that said, it was timely advice for, so I'm thankful this thread came back!!
