Default German Sheperds and Orchids do NOT mix!!

Ok... I feel like i am going out of my mind! My dog eats one of my orchids every other day now!! I am so mad

I need advice! What can i do to deter her? I have the plants out of reach but she still attacks them!

I lost my Psy. Mendenhall today and i didn't even get to see it bloom!

I have a coffee plant that my Airedale was determined to dig up. I finally sprinkled black perpper in the potting soil. It really worked. I had to apply it twice before he gave up. He has not touched it since. It might work for you. It seems to have had no ill effects on the coffee plant. It is still growing and putting out leaves, blooms once a year. A long time ago, we had a Sheltie that ate Cattleyas. Don't know what the attraction was. There has to be something that will repel your dog. If black pepper didn't work, I was going to use Cayenne pepper.

BAD DOG!!!! I don't know the right technique. But the British women on the show "It's me or the Dog" would know. The show come's on the Animal Planet. Of course that's assuming you get that channel. She use's positive training no yelling, hitting and they work. Good luck

There's a product you can get from Pet Supply shops called "Bitter Apple." It's completely safe for dogs (and hopefully for orchids) and made just for keeping them out of things they shouldn't get into, so will stop them from chewing anything! You spray them in the mouth with it so that they learn what it is. Don't be surprised if they foam up a bit - it's OK! Once they get that first taste of it, they'll NEVER want a second, so you then spray it lightly on what you want to keep them away from. I've used it for many years (at least five or 6 dogs) and not once has it failed me.

Oh, and the pooch in my avatar ate one of my Phal. Mini Mark "Holm" plants.

I'm so sorry to hear about your orchid losses! I used to work at a pet shop and they had something called bitter apple that was actually made for plants. I'm not sure if they make it anymore but you could try the regular bitter apple and wipe it on your orchid leaves. Make sure you look at the ingrediants first though. You don't want your 'chids to fry either. But I do know that a lot of people bought it to spray on their regular houseplants. Dogs hate the stuff!

Do you think if i spray it in the area and not on the plants itself, it will keep the dog away?
