Nichole, thank you for posting those pictures. I am glad that you had a great time. I like the green paph.

I was planning to take my vacation to visit San Francisco this weekend, but my frequent flyer milage did not have enough to cover two of us.

BUT, I am leaving for San Diego on Thursday. I guess there will be an orchid show next weekend.

Thanks for the pics Nichole. I wasn't able to make it this year even though I'm only about an hour and a half drive away. GF had to work all weekend. But I've got some great pictures from last year and had a great time. (And of course left with my wallet about $300 lighter.) Can't resist those species orchids from Andy's!

Nichole, the dend. is definitely Pixie Princess...I got one at my local garden center a month ago and it's still in bloom. Gorgeous flowers, incredible blooms that are long lasting and have a wonderful fragrance...I highly recommend getting one for yourself!!!

Thanks so much for all the pics, they are beautiful...it looks like it was a great show...maybe next year you can take me!!

Sandy - Yes, the masdies were huge! An there were tons of them! It blew my mind. It was certainly a great show. I saw plenty of people leaving loaded down with cym's... perhaps your cousin was one of them It would have been hard to buy them all up... there were a couple vendors there with pretty much nothing but cyms.

Hi Cam! Yes, I forgot to mention how many milts were there. Many in the displays, and many vendors had them too. I'm not much of a miltinopsis person, so maybe that's why I forget. lol They sure are pretty though.

Paul - I'd probably be deeply in debt as several vendors if there hadn't been so many people. It kind of forced me to make my choice, and get on with it! Andy's booth was hopping too. In fact, I think theirs was by far the largest and neatest. I only got one because I just kept telling myself that I'll probably end up buying the OB project plant from Andy's and will have to add some "travel companions" (as sue called them) to go along.

mollycart - Yes, 'tis the season for orchid shows! Too bad you couldn't make this one, it was a lot of fun. But San Diego will be fun too. Plus, you're closer to a lot of vendors down there!

PleuroPal - Bummer on the GF having to work... shoulda left her behind! At least you still have money now that you didn't go! Yes, Andy's is pretty amazing. What a fine selection the had there too.

I missed your post Ethan! Pixie Princess at your local garden center ?!?! Your garden center folks need to talk to some garden center folks 'round here! Certainly do let me know if you come next year. It would be fun to meet other OB members!

Great pics Nichole! Looks like there were amazing Masdies in abundance there! I toyed around with going this year, but just couldn't make it work out. I'm going next year for sure. My folks live on the Penninsula so it's only about a 40 minute drive into the city. Cyms are very popular in the Bay Area. Most people can grow them outside year round. My mom has about 20 out on the back patio, and they are humongous!

I love what you bought as well. I thought Den. antennatum was supposed to get big? If Andys has a miniature variety then I'm all over it! You're going to love atroviolaceum. It's a great plant. Looks like you got the taller variety. The blooms will last forever. If it's happy it will just keep sending up spikes without interruption.

Nichole,

I think it is wonderful when members here take pictures of the orchid shows that they go to. It's always informative to see quality plants.
Thanks for all the photos.
It is also very interesting to see what shows are like on the other coast.
Thanks again.

How could you forget?
milts are my fav!! I find them pretty and resistant to the fungus that has been attacking my collection . (although that gives me an excuse to buy more milts!!)

Hey Terri, certainly do come next year! We oughta make a West Coast OB meetup for it! We could go to breakfast together, and then be first in line to get in!

Yes Mike, I find it interesting to see pictures from other shows. I wish I could go to them all! But location and time of year does play into what is in displayed at the shows it seems. Sure, some vendors travel from afar to participate, but by and large, the vendors were from the west coat, and many right here in California.

I do think the milts are starting to grow on me Cam. I suspect they could be like the paphs... at first I didn't really take much notice of them, now I'm like "ooooh, I want that!"

Oh... and yes Terri, antennatum canes are supposed to reach 18" mine is just a babe.

Just a note too on what a great vendor Andy's is! As I was paying for my new 'chid, my husband was wondering the type of wood it was mounted on. Harry was so kind and not only answered that question, but gave us all kinds of info on mounting, how they do it, what they look for, types of stuff to use, mosses etc. What a super nice man, and so helpful! And now hubby is armed with all kinds of great info to start making mounts for me
