Good news today! - Orchid Board

Today my husband agreed to let me have some more orchids. I am allowed to get another table, the same size as the 2 I have already, and fill it with orchids!!! I'm so happy!!!!

I guess, he was tired of me moping around and making hints about buying orchids. Okay, so they weren't hints. They were more like, "Why can't I have anymore

?!" So, he doesn't even know what he started!!

How about some suggestions on some smaller chids, to fill up the 2 tables I have and the other one I am going to get. Hehehehehe, he thinks all orchids are big!

There are some that have to be purchased. The Den. Peng Seng, Catt Siam Jade and that Phal Bellina! Some paphs, maybe some phrags. Any suggestions for small, beautiful blooming orchids is needed and welcomed.

Amanda, I feel you...I went to an orchid show today and came home with four newbies and two more that I had held for me....needless to say, i got the look of shame when I got home.

whoops! hehe

Congrats on your new adventure...I would recommend some tolumnias, do you have any? They're my new fav...small plant, (but long spikes so watch out for the lights), and so many beautiful color combos....also maybe some compact catts? Can't think of any name off the top of my head, but I know there are a lot of them....just a thought....

ANDY'S is a great place to start, lot's of mini's. And Neo's don't take up much room. You must be happy

Dave, I am going to start with Andy's, Oak Hill and see what IncredibleOrchids has also! I'm so excited!!!! I can hardly contain myself! I need more lights! I need more spray bottles! I'm dragging my husband to the nursery he found that has a sign saying they have orchids. Hehehehehe, he has no idea what he's done! MUAHAH!!

Girl you need to go vertical! Maximize your floor space!

Check out my set up. Picture was taken last May. The shelves are now packed. I don't think I could cram one more pot in there. I'm running 2 T5s attached to the underside of each shelf, so a total of 6 lights. My husband says when the lights are on and the blinds are open at night it looks like "Area 51". I got the shelf at Lowes. It's easy to put together, and if memory serves me correctly was around $70. I'll go snap a pic of the shelf as it looks today.

I agree, you should talk your husband into a rack instead of into a table hehe... you can ad lights and more plants. Buhahaha....

I have actually been thinking of getting a shelf. Something I can mount lights and orchids to.

Congrats on swaying hubby into getting more orchids! I only hope that I'm lucky enough to someday have someone persuading me to get more orchids! hehehehe, as if I'd need any persuading!

As for minis, a few suggestions I could make are angraecoids, ascocentrums and hybrids, bulbophyllums, Cadetia chionantha, there are some incredible and very compact species Catts like forbesii and luteola, Dendrobium dichaeoides and jenkinsii, Dyakia hendersoniana, Encyclia polybulbon, Haraella odorata, Isabelia virginalis (really want one of these for me!), mini laelias, Leptotes, Masdies, and there are some amazing small phals.

Terri, that shelf looks great! And not too expensive either, maybe my parents could warm up to something like that.
