International Orchid Board
What do you guys think of an international section on OB? Say
- spanish
- german
- polish
- Indian
- Italian
- etc,etc
We do have an international mix here, a lot of you could discuss things in your own languages.
Just a thought

I support this as long as it doesn't take over the whole tenure of the board. I realize we are an international board, but frankly, most users are from english-speaking nations and so far most have been able to communicate effectively with one another. I'd recommend thinking this one over for a while.

I agree with Ross...I wouldn't want anybody to be uncomfortable here but the feel of this board is that we're all in it together. To break it down to individual nations would take away from that. So far, we haven't had any problems and those of us who do speak English have even found translation sites that help us to welcome our new-found friends.
Just my opinion...

I'm for it. There's another orchid forum which has the option of being viewed in 9 different languages. The majority of the frequent OB posters seem to be North American, and that wouldn't change if OB was expanded to include international sections. If it were expanded, non English speaking orchid growers would probably not be as many so English would most likely be the dominant language. I believe there is a lot to be learned from orchid growers from different countries and would like to encourage them to join.

I see what gerneveyn is saying. I think it could possibly bring some folks from other countries, and increase OB membership numbers. But at the same time, unless members are multilingual, there would infact be a great divide among members. Tips and tricks in the German subforum would probably never make its way to all the other forums. To do this, would infact mean to create little Orchid Board Spinoffs. Think about it.
Are we ready for that? But I do support the idea that this will eventually occur. In anycase, I have first dibs on Spanish Orchid Board Mod!!

How about we wait till we have lots of non english speaking international members. I forsee Italy being among the first to get to that point.
Or maybe the Philipenes (what language besides English do they speak overthere?). So lets say, we wait till there are at least 20 Italian members (for example) and then we give them their own little Foro d'Orquidias Italiana!
