Okay, I'll agree with that!

When your late for work and you spray your 'chids instead of taking your shower. :yikes:

quiltingwacko 11-14-2009 11:27 AM

....when your dining room is full of orchids instead of being a nice room to have the holidays in, because it has good exposure and there is room for lights in there. Someday, my greenhouse will come.....

snakecharma 11-18-2009 06:56 AM

...when you have your ebay orchids delivered to a relative's house so you can sneak them home gradually, so your Other Half doesn't notice and complain "not another one!?"

etex 12-23-2009 03:24 PM

When you've told your husband at least 8 times this month that this order was your last and that you were getting no more orchids this year!

You have two more days left. Make another order...`cause don't you know, you're not supposed to end things with an odd number?

RosieC 12-23-2009 06:17 PM

When you go in to a garden center and assure hubby "Don't worry I'm not getting orchids... well 95% sure I won't"... then you come out with 7 including some very large ones.

Did that this weekend

... well they usually just have NoID Phals and this time they had lots of different genuses that I've not tried before!

Country Gramma 12-23-2009 10:04 PM

When you're thinking that you could move the African Violets with that regular fluorescent fixture under your cabinets onto the kitchen counter. AND looking at another 4 tube T5 light fixture to buy with your Christmas money from your MIL. Another Shelf YEAH YEAH.

When you agree to buy an orchid at your orchid society meeting before the seller puts the price on it - because after all, it's Christmas time and you owe yourself a present and it's in bud with beautiful magenta buds and your husband will be out when you get it home so you can sneak it in.....

Connie, Does that work???

dragom 12-24-2009 07:12 AM

replacing one that didn't make it with 2 others to help sooth the pain. Well it was a very large one it just wouldn't be right to replace it with just one small one.

etex 12-24-2009 09:14 AM

When you can't order just one orchid off the internet because the plant might get lonely in the box. And you can't order just two because they may not be friends.

If you carry a grandma's brag book of chids pics!

RosieC 06-10-2010 07:39 AM

If whenever you buy new ones you have to show everyone at work the pics you've posted online!

(Along the line of Carol's, but I don't put them in a book).

jrodpad 06-10-2010 08:45 AM

When it makes perfect sense to spend $20 in order to ship a $15 orchid...

When the orchid grower from the greenhouse openly refers to herself as your enabler...

When it seems perfectly natural to add an intricate system of growlights, fans and timers to the living room decor...

When you curse the gods and shake your fists at the universe for not having more south facing windows in your house...

When you find yourself checking your email primarily to see what OB subscribed threads have been updated...

yeah.

...when you call in to work and say you'll be a little late because i just spent an hour reading this ENTIRE thread!!! ...

...when (mentioned one of my posts earlier) you go to mcds and accidentally order "orchid mcnuggets" and the lady stares at you funny...

...when you call in sick to school because you have a package to recieve when its too hot outside, likewise when theres an auction youw ant to win on ebay :) ...

...when you order more than just ONE orchid just because you cant pass up a great deal on combined shipping :) ...

...when you buy orchids for gifts to people and tell them "give it back when the flowers die" ...

when you ask your friends for "early bday/xmas presents" when theyre with you at the store cuz you found something you really want, then when bday/xmas comes around, you pretend it never happened and ask for another gift...

when you need new shoes because you havent bought yourself any lately due to orchids, and when your mom buys you a pair you return them for cash to buy another orchid...

Lorraine 08-29-2010 05:20 PM

...when your "Wish List" is longer than the space you have available to put them all....oh well, kill off another grassy area and make the garden bigger!

....when I also hope the neighbors' wood fence falls down so I can offer to pay half to build a stucco wall for more mounting space

You are just a thoughtful person. You wouldn't want #1 orchid to be all alone in the shipping box. Carol

You might be an orchid enthusiast

When you contemplate seriously finding new homes for your (almost) entire hoya collection, one of your epi. strictums, all your hybrid epis., your duplicate rhipsalis plants, the enormous decorative tree and scheffleras (sp?) so you will have room in the GH for all the orchids you managed to buy this summer. And, on top if this, are contemplating how to convince DH to build an entirely new, larger GH, this time to my specs.

Eyebabe 08-29-2010 09:14 PM

....when your collection is worth half the equity in your home.

Wrebbitrocks 08-30-2010 03:38 AM

when you give iced tap water to your friends and give the clean water to the chids

RJSquirrel 08-30-2010 06:17 AM

when you lose an orchid, you have a long procession, dressed in black with the death march playing in the background and I'm just going to the trash can.

Things grow in wild, mounted on trees with the help of birds or air circulation , without any attention but we people buy them ,
lorded in our homes , Give them fertilizer , this and that and think I am a proud member of OB.
I am very sorry if you felt bad feelings.

I like that, no bad feelings at all :D

RosieC 09-05-2010 01:44 PM

when your Hubby assumes everything you say is about orchids... therefore when you ask him to if he can move the Cat (meaning a wooden ornimental one) back to it's normal position, he is trying to work out which of the plants is the Catt.

Just happened to me

boyong 09-15-2010 09:26 PM

if you spend much more time with your hobby than your hubby:biggrin::rofl:

mollycart1 09-16-2010 10:10 AM

No matter how many time you move your orchids around, you exactly know where each plant is.

Then instead of counting 'sheep' when you cannot sleep, you start naming each plant.

Triffid 10-07-2010 11:38 AM

So many things in this thread have made me laugh, now my lungs are sore!

and to add another.

When you try to convince your "Significant Other" that replacing the fabric curtains with chains, wooden poles and the like, so that you may hang Orchids from them is a very good idea indeed :whistling

Nic100 10-07-2010 05:36 PM

when you agree with your husband to go to theme park and brave the rollercoaster so he will bring you to the orchid farm... i am scared of heights!!!

oh yeah, two rollercoaster rides and two water slides later, i bring back 29 new chids

 that really is an addiction to orchids. Not sure I could do that!

Actually yes I would if it was the only way... but I would have to have exhausted all other posibilities!

kavanaru 10-11-2010 07:11 AM

when before a major surgery, you are more worried about the health of plants that will arrive while you are at the hospital (and try to organize someone to get the plants for you and pot them ASAP), than about your own health :(

You are right Ramon... that really is addicted. Well I already know you are recovering slowly... so how did the plants do?

kavanaru 10-11-2010 07:24 AM

they did very well too :) I think I have trained theright person for the job :D

I am now the happy owner of my first Paph. rothschildianum (two plants!) and Paph. sanderianum (I was really worried about this one, as this is the most expensive plant I have ever bought :blushing: - and will stay like that, as I must admit it was already crazy!! I "had" to lie about the price to avoid some discussions at home ), as well as some other multiflora Paphies...

RosieC 10-11-2010 07:45 AM

Great choice of plants, glad they are doing well. Both of these are on my wish-list but both outside what I'm willing to pay just now.

I saw a really nice cross of rothschildianum at a show in June and it was gorgeous despite not being the pure species. They were still asking more for that than I was willing to pay... well if I had got it I would have had to cancel all the others I had bought at the show, I think it cost about what I had paid for arround 8 other plants combined!

order them from the USA, when the vendors come... better quality and lower prices than in Europe for these kind of Paphies (well, they can also be extremely expensive too)
