I'm not really sure. We are going as part of a larger tour of the country with Natural Habitat Adventures.

I just returned from Panama about a week ago. I did tour Finca Dracula and what a place it is. Unfortunately most of the pictures I took are not all that great. But, the grounds surrounding the nursery are heavily planted and magnificent. If you ever get a chance to visit, allow plenty of time to explore all the epiphytes growing in the trees around the garden. I was told they no longer sell orchids at all.

Here's a link to my pictures. Just click on the first and you can browse through them easily.

We did have allot of fun and writing the journal was my way of making sure I remembered it all. I will be posting more pictures from other members of the trip in the future. I highly recommend this company for this trip.

I had an old 125 gallon aquarium that had lost a side so I wanted to make a terrarium from it. I tried it horizontal but it never really worked for me. So, I decided to turn it on it's end and make a Panama biotype in honer of my visit. I have been working on this since the fall. But now I get to plant it. I had a number of orchids so they have been going in and it's looking pretty good but I have lots to go. Here's a link to the journal on a sister site.

Suggestions are welcome.

Default Visit to Finca Dracula

I am new to the board and to orchids. I will be in Costa Rico and Panama in late January 2010. I will be wanting to visit Finca Dracula. I will be using public transportation. Will I have difficulty in the area without a car. Are there other orchid gardens that I should see while in the area before returning to Costa Rica?

Thanks Ed R

Ed, I'm not sure about how easy it will be to get public transportation. We were with a tour and had our own transportation. I see you are from Charlotte. Is that Charlotte NC?

I live just south of you in Wingate. Have you visited UNCC's Greenhouses? Stowe is having an Orchid Show starting Friday.
