Thanks everyone for your very thoughtful responses. We'll all get through this one way or another. I've told my son that given the circumstances and the current economic climate that now would be the opportune moment to go back to school and finish at least his AA degree. He's beginning to see the wisdom in that, and even if it still doesn't net him a job he will have that sense of accomplishment. He's signed up for College Algebra, and I'm crossing my fingers he gets through it this time. (This will be his 3rd attempt, he withdrew the last 2 times because he was too busy at work). Math is his worst subject so I'm hoping if he can get beyond that hurdle he might be more encouraged to take additional classes.
He won't be homeless (we own the townhouse he rents), and his car also won't be repoed (borrowed money from the bank of Mom & Dad), so he's in a much better situation that many people. We're financially OK for now so are able to help out with other bills.
Thanks for the advice Gin, I'll definitely repot. Some of the plants look much better today. Amazing what a little water will do.
Ross, the housing market crash is the reason Oregon is in a world of hurt. No one is building new homes these days. Timber Products just shut down their White City mill last week laying off 45 workers. It's just the most recent of many mill closures in the last couple of months. Of course the high unemployment rate affects the entire state. Everything in the state budget comes from property taxes or income tax. When nobody's working state revenues pretty much dry up leading to even more layoffs. It's a vicious cycle that feeds itself. The rate of the downward spiral in the state economy makes me dizzy!
Thanks again everyone!
You're the best!
