Default My Parkside hall

I decided today to make the drive a few hours south to Parkside Orchid Nursery in East Central Pennsylvania. Good thing I did, too... their big annual sale was on, including a mystery draw at the cash-desk where you pick a discount amount out of a box. I scored: 30% off my whole purchase, woo hoo!

Definitely worth the drive. Their stock (five big greenhouses full) is bursting with health, the folks there are friendly and knowledgeable, and they went out of their way to help me out despite the large crowd. This is what I got:

- Paphiopedilum sukhakulii
- Paphiopedilum Wossner Vietnam Gold (armeniacum x vietnamense, in spike)
- Phalaenopsis bastianii
- Cattleya luteola
- Dendrochilum cobbianum (in spike)
- Tolumnia Genting Volcano (in bloom, retina-frying pink)
- Sediria japonica
- Dendrobium laevifolium
- Masdevallia striatella (in bloom, dozens of flowers)
- Bulbophyllum medusa (in spike, three large buds!)

Gonna need a new shelf soon...

Nice haul Stephen! I'm green with envy. There's nothing as nice as Parkside anywhere near here. Several on your list I already have, and several are on my list. You know we're expecting

Great selection, boytjie and 30% off, whoo-hoo!. Love the Bulb. medusa. One is definitely in my future.

Parkside had on their website last spring, one of the prettiest Onc.'s I've seen, a huge purple Onc. that I still think about. It was more than I wanted to spend and with shipping, couldn't justify spending that much but I could kick myself now.

Enjoy your newbies.

It sounds more like Christmas than Thanksgiving. WOW!!! That list sounds great. A very nice selection, especially with the Medusa in bud. Congratulations for both your selection and the 30% off drawing.

As requested, here are a few photos of what I got:
1. Masdevallia striatella bloom close-up
2. Masdevallia striatella plant
3. Tolumnia Genting Volcano

I'll add some pics of the Bulbo. medusa once the blooms open! Can't wait for that to happen...

Cool Masdie! I love the stipes!! I have a Tolu. Genting Volcano as well but mine is more orange than red like yours. There seems to be quite a bit of variety in the color of Tolu. blooms in the same hybrid. Pretty interesting. I guess they are plants you would want to pick out in bloom so you'd be sure to get the color you want.

Yeah, it was interesting. At the nursery, another gentleman was also shopping for Tolumnias, and he picked up a Genting Volcano and compared it to the one in my hand. At first we thought mine had been mis-marked, but then we found the color variance in all the plants was really surprising, from deep orange to pink. What's more, the plant sizes also ranged from tiny to near-Oncidium size.

I wonder if the bloom color changes from bloom season to bloom season? That would make it even more interesting.

Masdevallia striatella is one of the top massies for stripes and prolific blooming, a good acquisition.

What do you think about the fragrance of the Masdie? Kinda weird, eh? Nice Tolumnia. Great collection you get.
