I've been a Trekkie for ever, and found the Vulcans the most fascinating. Tuvoc (Tuvok) is the Vulcan on Voyager, who grows and hybridizes orchids found throughout the cosmos. Quite logical, and fascinating, if I do say so myself.

I was named after my father, and his father, Alton. Since I never had a name of my own I shortened it to Al when I was old enough to not respond to Alton. LOL

I plead the same, Jenn...it's the heat! Since the beach is one of my favorite spots, I could pretend that's why I chose my user name but the boring truth...it's my name. I was going to go with, "bicoastal" since my permanent residence is Calif., but that's not definite anymore. I've been taking care of my mother who's health is bad and now gravely ill (why I've been off the board lately) and was going to use "caregiver" but I'm not too keen on being one. I was an attorney in L.A. (before landing in Fla.) where I was called, "Red" because of my red lipstick so maybe I should have used that as a username? My daughter calls me, "hot momma", so maybe I should have used that name? Orchids have been my 'salvation' the past couple of years so that was another name I thought of using...salvation. Too much thinking went into picking a username, so I kept it simple. Besides, I enjoy being on a first-name basis with friends.

P.S. Terri, your quilt is outstanding!

So Al, what about "Bird Song Farm" ... can we assume that is what you call your residence? ? ?

When we moved back to Maine and found this run down cottage that hadn't been lived in for 15 years, it was May and the birds were everywhere, singing their court ship songs. Bird Song Farm (two acres with 100 year old trees) just seemed a natural name and it is now known throughout the town. Just mention the name and anyone can tell you where we live.

I can tell all, if Al doesn't mind, that I have seen pics of his acreage and indeed it is very neat!
