Looks like Ramon beat me to it! I can't see the videos due since i am at work, but I am guessing they are amusing! The Caipirinha is made with cachaca a brazilian type of rum, limes, sugar and crushed ice. It is made from cane sugar, which makes it much tastier than that clear rum that you use to make mojitos. I always have to add a little water to mine though because I don't have crushed ice, so they come out quite strong. The ice helps dilute it usually.

I didn't know that mojitos weren't made with soda in Cuba. That makes sense though, and I would probably drink them more often if I had known that! I have a mint plant but it does not do so well here for some reason. I guess I will stick to Caipirinhas until my mint takes off...

Ramon, that is really neat about the birdwatching. What did you do living with/working with the Pemon people?

My name is Nichole and I've been growing orchids for a little better than 2 years. I have just shy of 60 plants, although not all blooming sized. I have numerous youngins that I wanted to raise myself. So far so good!

My username come from one of my other passions. Weight lifting! I enjoy having a muscles a little larger than the "average" gal and being strong (this comes in very handy when gardening!). So, orchids are this Muscle Girl's hobby

Jenns, just a correction... both Rhum and cachaca are made from sugar canes, the difference is that Cachaca is not Rhum, the process is diferent, and therefre also the taste... Mojito is made with "white Rhum", wich is a very young one (have not been aged in wooden barrels)

and no, the mojitos are made with plain water in Cuba,,, it is in the video that they use Soda water, like they also do it here in Europe... (personally, I do not like them with soda!)

with the pemons? I used to work in several Ecology research projects in south Venezuela. Had to work together with Pemons, Guajibos, Yaruros, Yanomami, and from time to tme with other ethnias... FYI, I studied biology in venezuela, it was after coming to Europe that I changed to Pharma...

cb are my real initials and 977 was the amount of the mortgage payment on our first house

I just don't want to get rid of it since I've been using it for years when I first created my email address when I first got a computer

I had no idea about....well any of that! I was told it was a Brazilian rum, but I am happy to know it is not! That makes more sense. I figured both were made from sugar, but I thought the cacacha was made from pure cane sugar, like unprocessed which gave it the different taste. Aging in barrels makes sense too which would explain why I like Bacardi 8 but not many other rums, because it has been aged 8 years in (oak I think) barrels. I should look this stuff up before I type!

They use soda for mojitos here too, even in Miami! I would have thought Miami could get it right, but I guess they do cater to tourists so....

Hard to believe someone who studied biology got hooked on a thing like the orchid! just kidding...

My name is Shannan, and I chose Shakkai for two reasons. Shakkai was the name of the first cat I had when I got my first apartment on my own. The name is based on shakkei, a Japanese (though probably a Chinese first) idea that encompasses the ideas of 'borrowing views' from the surroundings in garden design, and teaches an appreciation for 'beauty without order' and a way to see imperfections as a necessary, essential part of the whole.

I changed the spelling for my cats name because Shakkei would be pronounced (Shock-kay-ee) and Shakkai is pronounced (Shok-eye, rhyming with eye or high).

Hello! My middle name is your first name, but I spell it Nicole. For being in this game for 2 years, you sure are accumulating plants fast! I have been doing this about 5 years and have about 70-80ish plants. Most of mine are blooming size though...only about 15 are babies. How often do you life weights? What about diet? Do you have to follow a strict diet to keep up your physique?
