YOU KNOW YOU'RE ADDICTED TO ORCHIDS WHEN YOU...

• program orchid nursery numbers into your cell phone.

• take empty suitcases on vacations just in case you find an orchid nursery near your hotel.

• sneak them in the house when your spouse isn't looking.

• call friends to tell them you've re-bloomed an orchid for the first time.

• drive back home in the middle of your vacation to care for your plants.

• are 75 years old and breeding cattleyas that take seven years to bloom.

• give away orchids to make room for the ones you have, then buy some more orchids and cram them into whatever space is left.

• lose your sun porch to your orchids in the winter and your dog pen to the collection the rest of the year.

• buy more than one of a certain kind so you have a backup.
