Default Definition of PANIC!

Panic: When one orders 13 plants in May, from a columbian vendor that won't ship until after labor day. Once plants arrive, purchaser realizes that its been so long since the order was placed that he forgot that the plants were coming bare root and he has no potting media on hand!

plants arrived in good health, other than needing a good drink. vendor has gotten terrific reviews from friends of mine that have used him in the past. but the list is as follows:

Bollea pulvinaris
Cochleanthes aromatica
" discolor
" marginata
Kefersteinia gemma
" oscarii
Lycaste macrophylla
Maxillaria luteoalba
" nasuta
Pescatoria klabochiorum
" coronaria
" lamellosa
Trichopilea fragrans

Looks like a nice list, but I have to ask, why from this vendor? Couldn't these be found "stateside" under better shipping? Just a thought.

Panic is when you are on a lovely exotic vacation someplace far away from the madding crowd. Your orchid babysitter calls and says she is in the hospital with two broken legs.

In a pinch I have used damp paper towels wrapped around roots OR white packing peanuts OR wine corks (I never throw them away). Something like this should get you thru til you get some medium.

at the other responses.

hahaha, I forgot about my wine cork collection. I have been saving them for a special day .

Ross, I probably could have. This guy is a friend of a friend and been very reliable for those he sells to. The plants arrived in really really good condition. I was impressed. There have been 5 people from my society that have ordered from him in the last year and not a single plant lost yet (knock on wood ) So I figured id give him a whirl
