Man....poor Royal might be havin' DT's this week. They're saying it might be up to two weeks until they can restore power to some places. No OB or AC..... Hope he's hangin' in there.....with no 'chid damage!

I hope Royal and our other friends in that area come through this safely...we also have Vanessa (vmx3000) and orchidexpress over there! There may be others but it's early and I can't think of any.

Default Update (and disappointing news) about the Tampa show

I was looking at the USF Botanical Gardens web site and noticed a discrepancy on the show dates.

Their site lists the dates as Nov 1 & 2, but the calendar entry here on OB says Oct 31- Nov 2...so I emailed Jim Clarkson to find out the actual dates. This is the email I just got back from him:

Susanne,

The show and sale are open on sat and sun 1-2 Nov. The sale will also be
open on Friday afternoon, 31 Oct.

Jim

Now, Dana is coming to stay with me for a few days so it's not a big deal to go on 10/31 for the sale and on 11/1 for the show but I think this is going to pose a problem for David

David, what are your feelings on it?
I'm going to PM this to you also

Default another update;

I emailed Jim again because this just wasn't making any sense to me. From his response, I'm assuming that the Tampa society does each of their two show in a different manner because Laura and I went to their earlier one last year and it was full of displays and vendors.

Here's what I wrote to Jim, followed by his response:

Thanks for the info, Jim...but that does throw a wrench into the plans we've made :-(

May I ask why, and how, this new format is being used? I just saw that the West Florida show is doing the same thing. I was involved in the setup of the Spring Hill shows for a few years and I know how much work goes into them...how can the show not be ready on Friday but will be ready on Saturday? If the hall will be full of vendors and buyers on Friday, how can they possibly work on getting the show portion set up?
It's just not making sense to me. :-[

Thanks for your help,
Susanne

This is the same format that both clubs have used for years. The Tampa show is a bench judged show where there are no exhibits. All plants for judging are on the individual table. At Florida West Coast, setup starts on
Thursday afternoon and must be completed by noon on Friday. The commercial exhibitors are required only to do Table Top exhibits. The public is allowed to buy only after set up is completed.

Jim

So...I guess we're still "on" for Friday 10/31.
