Default Peach State Orchids

I wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the Vendor Feedback area. Sorry if this is wrong.

I drove over to Peach State Orchids, near Atlanta, today, about an hour from my house. My daughters came along, and we had a great visit. The younger daughter liked their friendly greenhouse cat, while my older daughter was absolutely charmed by their VERY large Iguana, Igor. I focused on the orchids, of course.

Their selection was really nice, and crossed a lot of genera. I stuck with the Phals, of course, though was tempted elsewhere. My personal preference, as I've said, is for Phal. species, yet of the five plants that adopted me only one is a species, a really nice, healthy mounted P. schilleriana. The others I picked up were Phal Sogo Grape (in bloom), Dtps. Monho's Princess (in bloom), a black Phal (in bloom) where I managed to get one of the few without an ID and so need to call them to get the cross, and a rescue Phal NOID they told me to just take, and which, though looking stressed, is perfectly sound and will recover into a nice plant.

All in all, I walked out spending under $70! Can't beat that.

I love your choices! It sounds like you and your daughters had a fun time. Phals are my favorite orchids too and a Sogo Grape has been on my wishlist for awhile now. And yes, you can't beat $70! Great job!

Great picks. P. Monho's Princess has always been one of my favorites.

I lived in Calhoun Ga for a few years but I wasn't into orchids at that time. Too bad, we had a GH there.

When we lived in Atlanta(NE) we would make the trek about once a year to Peach State(NW). The couple that own it are very friendly and it was nice just to wander around their greenhouse. We also would see them at the Southeastern floral show. Back when we would go you had to call and make an appointment. Not sure if they still operate this way or not. Been a few years. I recomend them.

Bill, they changed ownership in the last year or two, and have opened with regular business hours. The new owners are great folks; I knew the original owners from shows as well, and they also were nice people. I'll certainly be a frequent haunter of their greenhouse.

Are they still at the same location? It was certainly off the beaten path.

Yes, still the same place. And yes, it certainly is a bit off the beaten path. But I've found that the places I like best are that way. Floradise Orchids in Virginia. Carter & Holmes in SC. And I can't even remember the name of the place in NC I used to shop, north of Charlotte, but it was not exactly convenient to one's daily routine.

Each has proven worth every mile of the drive.

jkofferdahl,
Is it Monho Princess or Minho Princess, I have one that the label is Minho Princess and the bloom looks exactly the same.
